Mangkam County is located in the southeast of Tibet, at the junction of Tibet, Sichuan and Yunnan. String dance is a folk song and dance in the area. It uses string as an accompaniment instrument. Men and women gather together to dance and sing to the music. Mangkam string dance is also called "Fan Xie Qiang" in Tibetan. "Fan" means Tibetan in Tibetan, "Xie" means song and dance, and "Qiang" means dance. The string is called "Biwang", which is a erhu invented by local people themselves. It is called "Huqin" in history books. String dance in Mangkam County, Qamdo has a long history. According to research, string dance appeared in Mangkam during the Tang Dynasty. String dance is the only unique folk song and dance in Mangkam. Every festival, people gather together and follow one or more men who dance frequently while playing the accompaniment of the harp, swinging their long sleeves and dancing. Mangkam string dance is flexible, wild and smooth, with movements such as dragging steps, turning around with a tap, shaking sleeves, and shaking steps with arms akimbo. The most distinctive feature is the flying long sleeves. The dancers sway with the string music and emit bursts of "trembling sounds", and the dance movements produce "trembling methods" accordingly. These movements are mostly characterized by imitating the postures and movements of some kind and auspicious animals, such as "peacock sucking water" and "rabbit running happily". There are many schools of Mangkang string dance with regional characteristics, such as the dignified and steady Yanjing string dance, the chic and elegant Xuzhong string dance, the difficult but relaxed Sodosi string dance, and the free and open Qudeng string dance. Under the clear and graceful sound of the piano, the string dance team, whether gathering or dispersing, lining up and circling, or raising their sleeves and spinning, reflects rich cultural connotations and aesthetic content. During every festival, the 16 townships (towns) in Mangkang will carry out colorful literary and artistic activities with string dance as the main theme. Mangkang string dance has a long history. It is ancient and magical, with unique forms, strong national temperament, rich plateau characteristics, many schools, and a complete performance system.
