In the agricultural areas and some pastoral areas of Tibet, people use the water drop between mountains to build water mills ingeniously to process tsampa, flour and livestock feed. Among them, "Jiami Quguo" is the most famous. "Jiami Quguo" means Jiami Water Mill. It is located in Niangregou, the northern suburb of Lhasa, 6 kilometers away from the center of Lhasa. The abundant water resources in Niangregou have formed the largest water mill group in the suburbs of Lhasa. Nearly 20 water mills have been built along the water for nearly two kilometers, which is unique in the entire Tibetan area. Niangregou has always been an important place for processing tsampa in Lhasa. The Jiami Water Mill was built in the 17th century AD. When the Fifth Lama was in retreat in the Songtsen Cave of Pabongka, the owner of the mill offered him tsampa produced by the mill. These tsampa are finely processed, pure white without impurities, and delicious. The Fifth Lama praised it highly. By the seventh generation, Nyagr Krami Water Mill became a designated mill for offering tsampa to 0 lamas and was officially named. In order to commend the Krami Water Mill for its contribution in offering tsampa to successive lamas, the former Tibetan local government granted it two baguettes 2 meters long and 20 centimeters wide, exempted the mill from taxes and Ula corvee, and stipulated that if the Krami Water Mill collapsed or was damaged, other water mills would work together to repair it, and gave the Krami Water Mill the privilege of using water resources first. The Krami Water Mill demonstrated the outstanding talents of the Tibetan people in mechanical manufacturing and grain processing. It made full use of natural spring water to grind tsampa in an energy-saving and pollution-free way. However, due to the low efficiency and low output of the water mill, the Krami Water Mill was impacted by electric flour milling tools, and its development prospects were not optimistic, and it urgently needed protection.
