Hui'an Woodcarving Technique

Fujian
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Quanzhou Hui'an woodcarving originated from the carved beams and painted buildings of the Central Plains culture. It is a folk art that has been passed down to this day by relying on the architectural carvings of the "Imperial Palace" imitating palace-style large traditional dwellings in southern Fujian. It integrates the traditions of southern Fujian, and has a simple and honest artistic style, smooth lines, and vivid character modeling. It also has the exquisite elements of southern culture. It presents a different aesthetic intention from traditional northern woodcarvings and is a typical representative of southern Fujian carving art.
