The craftsmanship of the Huang family steamer has a history of more than 900 years. In the fourth year of Shaosheng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1097 AD), it was invented by Huang Yifu, a native of Shiyang Village. The origin of the Chinese fir slice steamer is Huangjia Village in Hubei Township, Jiaocheng District, Ningde, which was formerly known as Shiyang, also known as Shuyang. It is more than 800 meters above sea level and is a coastal mountain area with continuous mountains, humid foggy weather and mild climate, which is especially suitable for the growth of Chinese fir. The rich Chinese fir resources provide Huang's steamer with unique raw material conditions. The creation of the Huang family steamer mainly depends on the discovery of the raw material of Chinese fir, which is as valuable as kaolin to porcelain, and fully embodies the principle of "material beauty" emphasized in "Kaogong Ji". The natural properties of Metasequoia gracile, such as loose texture, softness, and easy peeling into pieces, have created a complete set of handicrafts for Huang's steamer. By the time of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, they were able to make daily utensils such as bowls, cups, plates, boxes, cups, saucers, bottles, and pots, including steamers. Some of them even became tributes, which also contributed to its characteristics of easy cooking, heat preservation, and air permeability. The "Huang's Steamer" has a beautiful shape, natural color, balanced and symmetrical hollow straight belly and straight mouth cylinder, with a transparent cover and a tight lid. Its shape is conducive to expanding the heating area and shortening the cooking time. It is ingeniously made, light and durable. Before liberation, the artisans who passed it on were spread all over Fuzhou, Nanping, Guangdong, Taiwan and other places. Since the reform and opening up, the steamers produced by the Huang family have been sold to various places inside and outside the province, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and even the United States, Japan, Australia and other regions. They are praised by foreigners as good steaming devices without chemical toxicity, and the "Chinese Steamer" is famous both at home and abroad. Protecting the original ecological Huang's steamer folk handicrafts is of certain value to the study of Song history and its folk craft history.
