Shaowu has a traditional custom of women walking on bridges on the Qixi Festival. "Walking on bridges" is a Shaowu dialect, which means walking on bridges. It originated in the Yuan Dynasty or the early Ming Dynasty and has been passed down to this day. The custom of "walking on bridges" exists in many places in my country, mostly called "walking on bridges", "stepping on bridges", "walking away all diseases", etc. Only Shaowu and Foshan, Guangdong, call it "walking on bridges". The time of walking on bridges varies from place to place, only Shaowu does it on the "Qixi Festival". Shaowu's "Qixi Festival Bridge Walking" requires walking across three bridges in order, first the "Parents Bridge" (Tongji Bridge) in Qintian, then the "Husband and Wife Bridge" (Baizhu Bridge) outside the South Gate, and finally the "Descendants Bridge" ( Bridge) outside the East Gate. On the Qixi Festival, older women call their friends, come in groups, and walk across the three bridges in order. Walking on the "Parents Bridge" is to pray for the health and safety of living parents, and to mourn the deceased parents and wish them to be reborn soon; walking on the "Husband and Wife Bridge" is to pray for the couple to live in harmony, love each other, respect each other, and grow old together; walking on the "Descendants Bridge" is to pray for a large family with many children and grandchildren. Walking on the bridge on the Qixi Festival is an ancient folk activity. Although it has a feudal and superstitious color, the essence of walking on the "Parents Bridge" is filial piety, repaying the parents' kindness and respecting the elderly; the essence of walking on the "Husband and Wife Bridge" is harmony between husband and wife, growing old together, and family happiness; the essence of walking on the "Descendants Bridge" is to cultivate children into adults and talents. It is a platform to showcase the fine traditional culture of the Chinese nation. In 2010, "Walking on the Qixi Festival Bridge (Shaowu)" was included in the third batch of representative works of Nanping City's intangible cultural heritage.
