Gansu
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Paper-cutting is a kind of decorative art widely spread among the people of Jingning. During festivals (mainly the Spring Festival) or festive occasions, women cut various flowers, birds, insects, fish or figures out of colored paper and paste them on window panes, door frames or walls as decorations. Jingning paper-cutting is delicate and lifelike. During the Spring Festival, people often cut "lotus goldfish", cabbage, chickens, grapes, etc. Each has its own expression. During weddings, people cut and paste red double "happiness" characters to show their happiness. Paper-cutting is also used as an embroidery pattern, embroidered on the top of pillows, socks heels, and shoe toes. Among them, the "embroidered pillow top" is a fine product among folk hand-embroidery handicrafts. The embroidery is quaint and gorgeous, retaining the unique national art style.
