Bazhai Water Festival
On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, the water worship activity at Houbei Mountain in Bazang Township has always been a grand festival for Tibetan and Han people. People have been praising the story of a kind and beautiful fairy doctor who came to this place, called the wind and rain, drove away the plague, and cured the eyes of a young man who was blinded because of saving her. From then on, the two fell in love, went through hardships and difficulties, and finally got married in a cliff cave and gave birth to a smart and lovely child. Unexpectedly, the Queen Mother of the Heavenly Palace learned about this, struck their child to death with thunder, swept away the fairy doctor, and blocked the cave entrance. After that, when there was a shouting sound from the cliff cave, a clear torrent would flow out of the cave entrance. From then on, at this time every year, people gathered here, gathered at the "shouting waterfall", burned mulberry leaves, sang songs, gave wine blessings, and commemorated the fairy doctor. Usually, this stream of clear water trickles, and only when people sing and dance wildly does it splash out bursts of torrents. Because the water can cure diseases, improve health and prolong life, the local Tibetans call it "Qusha" (i.e. holy water). After the lively morning water worship, people gather in Pingba, men, women, old and young, arm in arm, forming a big circle and dancing happily. The men surround the dancing women and perform the ancient "bazhen dance", with firecrackers roaring, majestic and spectacular. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
