Hani Haba is an important part of Hani folk literature in China. "Hani Haba" means Hani ancient song in Hani language. It is a folk ballad widely spread and far-reaching in Hani social life. It is a solemn and elegant ancient singing mode different from Hani folk songs, love songs, children's songs and other types. "Hani Haba" involves production labor, religious festivals, humanistic norms, ethics, marriage and funerals, food, clothing, housing, literature and art in ancient Hani society. It is an "encyclopedia" of Hani people's education customs and life norms, which are centered on terraced farming production and life from generation to generation. It is known as the "encyclopedia without words" and the "living fossil" of culture. In March 2008, it was declared as the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. "Hani Haba" is spread in Yuanyang, Honghe, Luchun, Jinping County on the south bank of the Red River in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture in the Ailao Mountain Area in southern Yunnan, as well as Potou Township and Puxiong Township in Jianshui County and other Hani-inhabited areas. The mountains here are high and the valleys are deep, with gullies crisscrossing. The height of the mountains is equal to the height of the water. The rainfall is abundant and the climate is mild. It presents a three-dimensional climate feature of "four seasons in one mountain and different weather every ten miles", which is most suitable for the growth of terraced rice. The Hani terraces here are the largest concentrated and contiguous area of terraced rice in the world, reaching more than 800,000 mu. The unique geographical and climatic conditions and the hardworking Hani people and other local ethnic groups have created the world's largest agricultural terraces with their own hands. As one of the pioneers and the largest promoters of terraces, the Hani people have a long history of terraced farming, the largest cultivated area, and the most sophisticated farming technology. Since the survival and development of the Hani people depend on the reclamation and development of terraces, terraces have also profoundly affected all aspects of the production and life of the Hani people, thus forming a unique and complete terraced farming culture phenomenon. The Hani people had no written language in history, and the dissemination of agricultural production and life knowledge was entirely oral and heart-to-heart. "Hani Ha Bar" has become the main way to pass on cultural knowledge in major festivals and gatherings of friends.
