Dongting fishermen's songs, which are called "Yakoukou" fishermen's songs by fishermen (that is, they can sing freely and express their feelings to their heart's content), have formed the unique flavor of fishermen's songs in the Dongting Lake area. As early as the Song Dynasty, Fan Zhongyan's "Yueyang Tower Record" recorded that "fishermen's songs are answered to each other, how great is this joy". Like other folk songs, it was also produced and developed in the long-term social practice of Dongting fishermen. Due to the differences in various factors such as political and economic conditions, historical culture, national customs, and language characteristics, different characteristics have been formed. Fishermen's lyrics are often improvised and composed by fishermen when they see the scenery. The method of metaphor is often used, the artistic image is relatively concentrated and single, and the content expressed is relatively direct and simple, but there are also narrative poems in the form of multi-section strophic songs. There are love songs, most of which reflect the pursuit of a happy life by Dongting fishermen, and depict the sincere and simple love and noble and pure sentiments of fishermen. Among them, there are children's songs, which are humorous and interesting, and rich in knowledge and entertainment. They are divided into play songs, pan songs and scolding songs. There are labor songs, which are songs sung by fishermen to eliminate fatigue and adjust their moods while sailing. The content is mainly about improvisation and imparting knowledge. The tunes are mainly derived from the local minor tunes widely circulated among Dongting fishermen. This is a minor tune developed on the basis of the mutual influence and mixing of fishermen's songs, lake songs and lantern tunes, and has strong local characteristics. For example, "Singing with Fish Nets in Hands", "Songs of the Four Seasons of Dongting", "Setting up a Singing Stage on Dongting Lake", etc., vividly express the cheerful mood of fishermen's labor life. Lantern tune is also a kind of folk song and dance, accompanied by percussion instruments and performed in makeup. Among Dongting fishermen, there are ground flower drums, lotus picking boats, fish and shrimp lanterns, etc. Widely circulated among Dongting fishermen are ground flower drums, lotus picking boats, fish and shrimp lanterns, etc. For example, "Welcome Song" comes from the lantern tune "Wuhua Drum Tune". The tune is warm and cheerful. Young men and women sing and dance with flower fans and handkerchiefs in their hands, expressing the sincere feelings and hospitable customs of Dongting fishermen.
