Earthenware has a long history in Longshan County and contains a rich ethnic culture. It has been confirmed by the cultural relics unearthed in our county that as early as the Neolithic Age, the indigenous ancestors made ancient pottery such as gray pottery, yellow pottery, black pottery, white pottery, and painted pottery. Longshan has very rich pottery mine resources, most of which are distributed in Taiping Mountain, Xincheng, Shigao Mountain, Huatang, Sanyuan, Xiluo, Baiyang and other places, covering an area of more than 500,000 mu, accounting for 1.12% of the total area of the county. According to the "Longshan County Chronicles", "ceramics were quite famous in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and were as famous as Liling Kiln." It was during this period that Longshan earthenware went from prosperity to decline. In 1958, after the establishment of a state-owned ceramics factory in the county, it was continuously updated and transformed to double the production efficiency. In 1980, the company successfully developed purple sand pottery and became the third producer of purple sand pottery in China. Its products entered the international market. It mainly produces coarse pottery, coarse porcelain, and refractory materials. Among them, purple sand pottery is exported to 14 countries and regions including the United States, West Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, Thailand, and Cyprus. According to the experts' signature, Longshan purple sand pottery has the same content as Yixing purple sand pottery, which has a high reputation in the world, and has extremely precious value. In 1992, Mr. Li Yunbin of the ceramic factory, on the basis of maintaining the originality of ceramics, used painting, carving and other techniques, and integrated the characteristics of national culture to develop and create three works of purple sand pottery, "Tujia Fengqing Zun", "Eight-headed Tea Set", and "Purple Sand Tea Bucket", and won the first prize of Hunan Province's Light Industry Excellent Four New Products. In 1998, after the dissolution of the county ceramic factory, Longshan earthenware production gradually shifted from cities to rural areas. At present, individual handicraft workshops of varying sizes have been established in Taiping Mountain in our county, Baipingba in Xincheng and other places to engage in traditional ceramic production.
