The craft of making bamboo hats in Zhongfang Town has a long history. As early as the Western Han Dynasty, Zhongfang people began to make bamboo hats with bamboo strips for sunshade and rain protection. The bamboo strips for Zhongfang bamboo hats are water bamboo (Yan bamboo), the bow strips are nan bamboo, and the circle strips are peach bamboo. From bamboo to finished products, it has to go through more than 70 processes of breaking strips, weaving, inserting tops, spreading paper, laying palm leaves, locking edges, brushing slurry, and appliques, with a complete skill system. Zhongfang bamboo hats have beautiful shapes. According to the material production and craftsmanship, they can be divided into rough bamboo hats, fine bamboo hats, refined bamboo hats, practical bamboo hats, and craft bamboo hats. The varieties are also extremely rich, including Luosha, horsetail, palm style, board palm style, nylon style, cloth style, paper style, hemp style and more than 10 other varieties. In 2008, Zhongfang bamboo hats were selected into the second batch of provincial intangible cultural heritage list. Zhongfang County Cultural Bureau is the main body of protection.
