Originated from the Tang and Song Dynasties, it has a long history and is currently the most distinctive and best performing folk art form in Xiangfan City. Donggong stilts belong to martial arts stilts, with tumbling and splitting, and the movements are difficult and famous for being thrilling. The performance is mainly clown, and the performance form is singing and dancing, accompanied by wind and percussion music. The singing style is the local flower drum tune of Donggong Town, and the lyrics are improvised. The activity time is the Spring Festival, and it is usually performed after the 17th day of the first lunar month. The activity area covers dozens of miles. Donggong stilts currently retain nearly 20 kinds of modeling movements, and the main routines include "immortals passing through the door", "five sons passing the imperial examinations", "five dragons holding the saint", "immortals passing through", "immortals forking", "two dragons playing with pearls", "yellow dragons coiling around the pillar", "phoenix absorbing water", "lazy man pushing a cart", "Zhang Guolao riding a donkey upside down", etc. There are more than 300 artists walking on stilts in Shangquanping Village and surrounding villages where Donggong stilts are located, which can be called the hometown of stilts. In 2002, Donggong stilts came out of the mountains and participated in various cultural performances in Xiangfan City, which caused a great sensation; in late October 2006, they performed a special show for nearly 100 domestic and foreign experts at the annual meeting of the International Society of Asian Folklore, which was well received.
