The folk lion dance in my country has a long history. The "Lingnan Lion Dance" in Shangma'ao Village, Sizhoutou Town, Xiangshan is known as the "Taiping Lion". The purpose of the performance is to pray for the protection of the ancestors and other gods. It is said that it existed before the Qing Dynasty, but it is impossible to find out how it was introduced and how many years it has been passed down. In the old days, it mainly appeared in major folk festivals such as the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival. The procedure was to go to the village temple first, then to the ancestral temple, and then roll the dance from house to house. The meaning of the movements varied according to the local area and the requirements of each household owner: for example, rolling to worship the Bodhisattva can "make a fortune", rolling on the bed can "give birth to a child", rolling around the four doors can "have peace in all seasons", etc., so it is very popular among the villagers. There are many artistic schools of lion dance, but the "Lingnan Lion Dance" is performed by only one "lion" accompanied by a percussion band such as gongs and drums. One person dances the lion's head and the other dances the lion's tail. The lion's head is equipped with a fireball that can spit fire. The performance effect is better at night, so it is often performed at night for a more spectacular viewing experience. The main movements of the lion dance include "coming out of the lion gate", "playing with lanterns", "playing with sticks", "playing with fireballs", "playing with steel forks", "jumping on table corners", etc. The characteristics of its movements are firstly "martial", which is combined with martial arts and acrobatic movements, and is difficult and highly technical; secondly, "live", which is not only vivid and exaggerated in shape, but also very vivid and attractive in lion dance movements such as itching, rolling, sitting, etc.; thirdly, it expresses the word "power", the whole lion dance has a tight rhythm, the movements are done in one go, the atmosphere is strong, and the unique power is reflected with the accompaniment of percussion music. Now, the team of its descendants is still relatively neat, but they rarely perform due to their old age. The local government and cultural departments are working with the town and village to include the inheritance of this project in the protection plan and are taking a series of protection measures.
