Shitang Little People Festival
Shitang Little People Festival is a festival in Shitang and Ruoshan area, where children under 16 pray to Qi Niang Ma on the Qixi Festival. This festival has obvious characteristics of southern Fujian culture, similar to the colorful pavilions dedicated to the Weaver Girl "Qiniang Ma" in Tainan and Kaohsiung. The ancestors of Shitang moved in from southern Fujian more than 300 years ago, and this custom took root. Due to the relatively closed geographical location of the local area, this custom has been well preserved by the people for more than 300 years. The sacrificial procedures of the Little People Festival: from the early morning to noon of the seventh day, families with children set up an offering table at the door, set up a colorful pavilion and a colorful sedan chair, light incense and candles, put seven wine cups, seven-color threads, bananas, watermelons, fungus and other fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as sugar turtles (pronounced jiu,), knife meat, rope E, and rice dumplings to sacrifice to Qi Niang Ma. At the end of the sacrifice, firecrackers are set off, and the colorful pavilion and sedan chair are burned to offer to Qi Niang Ma. Guests are invited to a banquet at noon, and the excitement is no less than that of the New Year. The distinctive features of the Little People's Festival are: first, the uniqueness of the content of the prayer, which is specifically for praying for the healthy growth of children; second, the uniqueness of the sacrifices used, the main sacrifices must be colorful pavilions, colorful sedan chairs and sugar turtles; third, the uniqueness of the gender of the main sacrifice, which is generally a female elder. The main value of the Little People's Festival: first, it is a living fossil of the evolution of traditional festivals of the Han nationality. This festival perfectly blends the belief and sacrifice of the Weaver Girl on the Qixi Festival, the belief and dolls of Mahora, and the pursuit of good luck and folk weaving crafts, becoming a living fossil for studying the inheritance and evolution of folk festival culture; second, it is a strong evidence of the common cultural roots of Fujian and Taiwan. Similar customs are still preserved in southern Fujian and some parts of Taiwan, which is enough to prove that the cultures of Fujian and Taiwan are of the same origin. Third, it is the dividing line for entering adult culture. The reason why it is called the Little People's Festival is that it is celebrated every year before the age of 16, but it is no longer enjoyed after the age of 16. The festival is endowed with sacred cultural connotations. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
