Zhejiang
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Rui'an Caocun Lantern Festival is a popular folk festival with a long history. It began in the 27th year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1157). In order to celebrate Cao Fengshi's success in becoming a Jinshi, every household in Caocun held up a lantern. Since then, it has become a custom that has lasted for hundreds of years. Now it has become a folk activity that integrates temple fairs, material exchanges, and cultural activities. It usually starts from the tenth day of the first lunar month every year to the night of the Lantern Festival. Lanterns are all out around the town, and stilts and land boats are on the stage. The scene is very lively. Information source: Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism Information source: Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism
