Ruichang Fanzhen River Lantern Festival (the fourth provincial level) Fanzhen Lotus Lantern Festival, commonly known as "sending boats", is a unique folk traditional festival in the towns along the banks of Longxi River in Ruichang. It has a history of more than 600 years and is spread in villages such as Fanzhen and Nanyi. On the 18th day of the fifth lunar month every year, villagers from all over the country will invite girls and sisters who have married far away to return to their hometowns to gather. First, they will organize to sing "filial piety songs" to teach everyone to respect the elderly, sing the true love of the world, and advocate loyalty and filial piety; then the dragon dance team and the dragon boat will go out. Wherever the dragon boat goes, the villagers will spontaneously splash water and wash the streets for the dragon boat, set off firecrackers to welcome the dragon, and the "Dragon King" will send ingots (steamed buns made into ingots) to the villagers to show peace and wealth; finally, holding lotus lanterns in hand, put the lit dragon boats into the water in the river and pond, and then place the lit lotus lanterns to express the thoughts of the ancestors and pray that the lotus fairy will bless the people with peace and good weather. In addition to these traditional sacrificial activities, the current Lotus Lantern Festival has added various self-entertainment activities such as setting up a stage in front of the temple to sing operas, gongs and drums, yangko, dragon dance, etc. The scale of dragon dancing on the shore and lanterns in the water is no less than that of the Dragon Boat Festival. The Lotus Lantern Festival is not only a form of sacrificial activity for the villagers, but also an important part of folk culture. Its distinctive traditional characteristics and rich cultural connotations cannot be covered by other traditional folk cultures. "Thinking of relatives with a lantern and respecting the elderly with a cup of tea", the ancient folk custom shows one side of human nature. Through folk customs, we can see the kind instinct of people and root the fashion of filial piety and respect for the elderly in our hearts. With the development of society and the acceleration of the process of rural modernization, the original folk cultural atmosphere has faded, and activities with folk culture as the main body are gradually moving away from our lives. We have the responsibility to preserve this folk traditional custom and make this folk activity with filial piety and respect for the elderly as the main content continue to be passed down for a long time.
