Hangzhou bronze sculpture is a continuation of ancient bronze manufacturing. It developed greatly during the Wuyue and Southern Song dynasties and reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty. It has a history of more than a thousand years. Wuyue and Southern Song established their capitals in Hangzhou, and a large number of bronze craftsmen moved in. Hangzhou has thus become an important production area of bronze handicrafts in the country. Datong Lane is where bronze workshops are concentrated, and its place name has been used to this day. After the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the Hangzhou bronze sculpture skills represented by "Zhufu Bronze Art" have become increasingly mature. It has been passed down for four generations and has a history of about 130 years. Hangzhou bronze sculpture perfectly combines traditional art with modern social life and is highly praised by all walks of life. Its products cover architecture, sculpture, calligraphy, murals, interior decoration and other aspects, and the content is very extensive. According to the variety, Hangzhou bronze sculpture mainly includes bronze towers, bronze temples, bronze bridges, bronze ships, bronze doors, bronze statues, etc. In production, Hangzhou bronze sculpture uses traditional techniques such as hollowing, overlapping, baking, greening, melting molds, and stippling to make the finished products achieve perfect artistic effects. The Leifeng Pagoda and the Bronze Hall of Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, the pagoda of Tianning Temple in Changzhou, Jiangsu, the Great Hall of Mount Emei in Sichuan, the Jintan Zushi Temple in Taichung, Taiwan, and the large-scale bronze reliefs "The Buddha Conquers the Demons" and "Xuanzang Seeking the Dharma" built with this traditional technique are all representative works of Hangzhou bronze sculptures and have high artistic value. As a variant of Chinese bronze ware, Hangzhou bronze sculptures represent the advanced level of Chinese bronze art. This precious historical heritage cannot be replaced by modern technology. At present, due to the difficulty of the technique and the long learning time, young people are unwilling to learn traditional bronze sculpture techniques. With the changes in social life, daily necessities such as copper pots have been gradually eliminated, and the practice of bronze sculpture production has stagnated. In addition, due to the lack of scientific research on this excellent traditional handicraft, a series of production techniques such as inlaid gold and stacked inlays can no longer exist. Hangzhou bronze sculpture techniques are already in an endangered state, and it is extremely necessary to protect and rescue them.
