Qin's Silk Art

🎧  Listen to Introduction

Silk art is a form of folk color-tying craft. There is no exact historical data to check when silk art began in history. According to the Song Dynasty's "Dongjing Menghualu", folk artists in the Northern Song Dynasty were able to cut silk into people, cut brocade into clothes, and tie human figures. There is a history that can be found in the Qing Dynasty. Most of them are small skills that the children of the Eight Banners play and watch after tea and wine. It belongs to the same small craft as "cicada-shaped hairy monkeys". "Silk art" is a handicraft made of silk materials. The main works include figures, birds, plants, grass insects, etc. Each piece of work is lifelike and vivid, and can be mistaken for the real thing. The process is strict in material selection and delicate and complex workmanship. Only one katydid requires 118 processes and takes 20 days. The work pays attention to "qi, rhyme, taste, and fun". The qi is positive, the rhyme is high, the taste is thick, and the interest is elegant. A piece of silk that is ordinary, a katydid that can be mistaken for the real thing, how far is the distance from silk to silk katydid? Master Qin Sanjie's hands take nearly a day to make a flat cloth into a three-dimensional work of art. How can a silk katydid, such a work of art, be called real? Looking at it, its eyes are wide open, its wings are thin and transparent, its hind legs seem to be kicking the ground forcefully, its leg spines are clearly visible, its long whiskers as thin as hair are proudly raised, and even the scales on its white belly are delicate and neat. Touching it, its hind legs are as hard as iron, its belly is soft and deflated when pinched, its whiskers are soft, and you can feel the slightly astringent fluff on it when you stroke it. At this time, one can't help but think of the word "lifelike", or "lifelike" cannot fully express the feeling of witnessing these silk katydids of Qin's silk art. The silk used in silk art is very particular, including big satin, flat satin, crepe satin, damask, spun silk, georgette, and foreign spinning... Different silks have absolutely different effects when used. A silk katydid is usually made of different kinds of silk, and the whiskers, head, body, wings, legs, and scales are made of different materials. The production process is so complicated that it is impossible to describe it in detail. The whiskers alone have a process. They are drawn from snow-white silk, but eventually become thicker and thinner, with fluffy hard whiskers. And the whiskers of different katydids are not the same. Some are for foraging, some are for preparing for battle, some are for drinking water, and some are for resting, which constitutes an excellent portrayal of the state of a katydid. Look at the cabbage again, the colors are bright and the layers are clear. Each leaf of the cabbage is tightly wrapped together, and even the roots and whiskers of the cabbage are made quite realistic. Although the process of making cabbage is less than that of katydid, with only 48 processes, cabbage is also made of silk and through a series of processes. Just like that! After the artist's ingenuity, two katydids lying on a cabbage became the representative work of Qin's silk art, "Katydid Cabbage". In addition, the exhibition hall of Qin Sanjie's home also displays works such as "Mantis Catching Cicada", "Voice of Bamboo Forest", "Guotai Baicai" and "Autumn Rhythm". The characters, birds, plants and grass insects in the works are lifelike and vivid. Qin's Silk Art is a Chinese Divine Product "Qin's Silk Art, a Chinese Divine Product" is the inscription of the great writer Feng Jicai after watching "Qin's Silk Art". "The sound of the katydid can be heard thousands of miles away, the earth is like a brocade with hundreds of wealth, children and the elderly are happy to enjoy a hundred years of happiness, and sing the song of the motherland's prosperity" This is the praise of the calligraphy and painting master Mr. Qi Gong when he saw the silk katydid. As soon as Qin's silk art appeared at the first International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival (abbreviated as "Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival") held in Chengdu, Sichuan, it attracted the attention of many audiences. In November 2007, the 8th China Folk Art "Mountain Flower Award" was awarded to the katydid made by Qin Zhisheng himself. In November 2007, it was awarded one of the "Mountain Flower Awards" of Qin's silk art. Qin Zhisheng's whole family was very happy to see that this product won the "Mountain Flower Award". Finally, the folk craft product was brought home. It is a unique skill of folk crafts! "Qin's Silk Art" is not only popular in the domestic market because of its historical and artistic value! It is also sold in more than a dozen countries and regions overseas. Now Qin Zhisheng is very good at making katydids and cabbages. On this basis, Qin Zhisheng has also created his own special silk katydid, especially the cabbage katydid made according to Tang Bohu's painting, which is amazing. Qin's silk art has a long history, unique style and rich content. The works are ingeniously conceived, rigorously structured, complicated processes, lifelike, and difficult to distinguish between true and false, giving people a sense of natural reality and beautiful enjoyment. Qin's silk art is all handmade, with fine workmanship, and never deteriorates, fades, or deforms. It is a precious treasure of the Chinese nation. It is worthy of being the descendant of Qin's silk art! Qin's silk art works are collected by museums such as the state, Henan Province, and Anyang City. They are sold all over the country and dozens of countries and regions overseas. People's Daily, CCTV, World Magazine, Henan Daily, Henan TV, Henan Channel of China People's Rights Network, Anyang TV, Henan Dahe Daily, Henan Today's An Daily, Anyang TV and many other media magazines have reported on it many times. "Intangible cultural heritage" refers to various social practices, concept expressions, forms of expression, knowledge, skills and related tools, objects, handicrafts and cultural places that are regarded as part of their cultural heritage by various communities and groups, and sometimes individuals. This intangible cultural heritage is passed down from generation to generation, and is constantly recreated in the adaptation of various communities and groups to the surrounding environment and the interaction with nature and history, providing these communities and groups with a continuous sense of identity, thereby enhancing respect for cultural diversity and human creativity. I hope that Qin's silk art can continue to flourish, inherit China's great folk art, and bring silk art to its peak of glory. Every Chinese, every Henan person, and every Anyang person will be proud of it. I hope that Qin's silk art can go nationwide and move towards the world. "Qin's Silk Art" is a family inheritance. There are currently 11 generations of descendants with a clear pedigree. "Qin's Silk Art" has a wide range of expressions, including ladies, flowers, birds, insects, fruits and vegetables, etc., all of which are lifelike and almost indistinguishable from the real thing. "Cabbage Grasshopper" is especially its representative work, which is famous at home and abroad and has a high reputation in the international handicraft market. "Qin's Silk Art" has a high appreciation and collection value.
