The majestic and beautiful Wangwu Mountain is located 45 kilometers northwest of Jiyuan County in the northwest of Henan Province. It is adjacent to Taihang Mountain in the east, Zhongtiao Mountain in the west, Taiyue Mountain in the north, and the Yellow River in the south. It is called Wangwu Mountain because "the mountain is shaped like the king's chariot cover". The top of Wangwu Mountain is 1715.7 meters above sea level. It is said to be the place where Emperor Huangdi prayed to the sky, and it is called "Temple of Heaven". The legendary "Yugong moved the mountain" is located on the south side of Wangwu Mountain. This is a large mountain ridge extending from the main peak of Wangwu Mountain from north to south. To the west of the mountain ridge is Yugong Village, and to the east is Xiaoyou River. The people of Yugong Village have to bypass the mountain ridge to get water from Xiaoyou River every day. Yugong led his descendants to dig it. Now there is indeed a large mountain pass in the middle of this mountain ridge. From a distance, it really looks like it was dug by humans. The legend of Yugong moving the mountain was first recorded in "Liezi Tangwen". It is said that in ancient times, there was a nearly 90-year-old Beishan Yugong. He was troubled by the two mountains in front of his house, Taihang and Wangwu, which blocked his way in and out. He was determined to flatten the two mountains. His family and neighbors came to help. Every day, they split the mountain and transported soil, going back and forth between Bohai and Taihang all year round. Hequ Zhisou ridiculed Yugong for being "stupid". Yugong said to Zhisou: "Even if I die, my son will live. My son will have a grandson, and my grandson will have a son; my son will have a son, and my son will have a grandson; my sons and grandsons will have children, and ... According to investigation, there are remains of "Yugong Village" and "Yugong Cave" in the Wangwu Mountain area of Jiyuan County, Henan Province, and "Yugong Panshan" is still circulated among the masses. The current story is that the mountain was dug to solve the problem of water source, and the fantasy color has also weakened. The legend of Yugong Panshan A long time ago, there was a small village with dozens of households at the foot of Wangwu Mountain in the northwest of Jiyuan County. The undulating mountains surrounded this small village in a valley. There was an old man in the village who was hardworking and kind, and his temper was as stubborn as Wangwu Mountain. People called him Lao Yugong. The small village where Lao Yugong lived was later called Yugong Village. There was no water in Yugong Village. To get water, the villagers had to cross Wangwu Mountain Ridge, cross Qingtonggou, go down Xingshupo, and go to a village more than ten miles away to fetch water. I don't know how many people were exhausted just for water all year round. There is a local folk song that says: If a girl does not marry in Yugong Village, she will carry water over the mountains like a cloud; the embroidered shoes she wore on the way there will wear out her heels when she comes back. Once, the old Yugong went to carry water with the villagers again. In the village on the other side of the mountain, there was a rich old man called "Zhisou" who said to Yugong: "Silly old man, the well is mine. From now on, no one is allowed to come here to carry water. If you want to carry water, go to the creek below." The old Yugong returned home in anger. He felt bad when he saw that it was so difficult for the villagers to get water. He climbed up Wangwu Mountain, looked at the mountains and ridges in the distance, and thought about his worries silently. Suddenly, the creek in the opposite ravine made a sound of rushing water. His mind suddenly became clear, and he thought: If a road could be cut on Wangwu Mountain, the villagers could go to the creek to carry water, and they could run less than ten miles, and they would not have to suffer the anger of the rich man anymore. He strode home and made up his mind secretly: I don't know how many difficulties this Wangwu Mountain has brought to my ancestors. I must bring some blessings to my descendants. When the old Yugong returned home and told his idea, his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and even his grandson were willing to go to Panshan together (Note: Panshan is a dialect of Jiyuan, which means splitting the mountain). So the old Yugong carried a mountain splitting hoe and led the whole family to the foot of Wangwu Mountain. Despite his old age, the old Yugong swung the mountain splitting hoe and sweated. The family also followed the old Yugong's example, digging the mountain and carrying soil. The children also boiled water and delivered meals, busying themselves back and forth, and they were really excited. Every morning, before the sun came out, their family started to Panshan, and they didn't go home until the moon climbed halfway up the mountain. Soon, the villagers knew about it, and men, women, and children came to help, and more and more people went to Panshan. The news that the old Yugong was determined to split the Wangwu Mountain soon spread to the ears of the rich old man "Zhisou" on the other side of the mountain. He went to the people who were walking on the mountain and found Yugong and said, "You guys are just like oak trees growing in the ravine. You don't even see how high you are from the top of the mountain! You want to split such a tall Wangwu Mountain with just a few people like you. I'm afraid you have to wait until the rocks sprout and the sun rises from the west mountain! Besides, Yugong, you are almost eighty years old. How many more days will you live? Can you split the Wangwu Mountain? Humph, humph!" Yugong listened to his endless chattering, then put down the hoe in his hand, stroked his beard that was messed up by the mountain wind, straightened his back, wiped his sweat, looked at Zhisou and said, "You are so tall. You want to split the Wangwu Mountain? You ... He laughed and said, "You old thing, you have lived to such an old age in vain. Even a child can understand the truth, but you can't understand it. Although Wangwu Mountain is high, it will not grow any higher. After I die, I will have a son, and after my son dies, I will have a grandson, and my descendants will be endless. No matter how high the mountain is, it can't withstand the constant digging of my descendants! Besides, there are villagers working together, so why can't it be opened! I think that to split Wangwu Mountain, it is just like what we mountain people often say: 'Day after day, water drips through the stone'. There is no mountain in the world that cannot be climbed!" As he said this, he chopped at Wangwu Mountain with a hoe. The sound of the words and the hoe, like thunder, made Wangwu Mountain buzz. The wise old man was disappointed and left without saying a word. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
