"Mashan nursery rhymes" originated from Mashankou Town, Neixiang County, and spread to Wanxi counties. They have been widely circulated among the people from generation to generation, and have been enduring and influential. Many experts and scholars have given high praise to Mashan nursery rhymes. Writer Ye Wenling and military writer Zhou Daxin have praised Mashan nursery rhymes. "The moon walks, I walk too. I drive livestock for the moon and drive to Mashankou" is a popular representative work of "Mashan nursery rhymes". The phrase "drive to Mashankou" has established the "classic of nursery rhymes" and "supreme nursery rhymes" in western Henan. As early as the Yuan Dynasty, Mashankou Town was crowded with merchants and was a world-famous distribution center for Chinese medicinal materials in history. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, merchants from Hubei, Henan, Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Shanghai opened shops here to do business. Mashankou was known as a famous town in Zhongzhou with abundant resources, prosperous economy and trade, a gathering of talents, and a splendid culture. In ancient times, there was a saying that "go down to Hankou, go up to Hekou, and go up to Mashankou if you want to go up." During the Republic of China period, Tianning Temple ran the "Wanxi Rural Normal School" in Mashankou, which was known as the "highest institution of learning" and "Huangpu Military Academy" in Wanxi. In addition, the foreign customs created by merchants from the north and south throughout history have created a local multicultural culture, which has greatly promoted and developed the inheritance and protection of the original ecology of Mashan nursery rhymes. "Mashan nursery rhymes" are the crystallization of the labor and wisdom of the local people in Mashankou for thousands of years. They are also the "business card" of Mashankou and the spiritual symbol of Mashankou. "Mashan nursery rhymes" use nursery rhymes as a carrier to highlight the traditional virtues of the Central Plains people, such as labor, life, metaphor, reason, diligence, filial piety, etiquette, family affection, harmony, and fraternity. All nursery rhymes are metaphors for true human love, retribution for good and evil, harmony in people's livelihood, and positivity, which are extremely far-reaching. For example, the representative nursery rhyme "The Moon Walks, I Walk Too": "The Moon Walks, I Walk Too, I Drive Livestock for the Moon, and Drive to Mashankou. I Catch a Chicken, Pick Peas, Catch a Monkey, Fall Down, and Fall Down to My Sister-in-law's Door, and Look at My Sister-in-law's Flower Pillow. "The Good Wife" Reflecting Nostalgia: "Cut with scissors, cut leeks, dream in the dark night that my sister comes, takes the golden basin to mix the noodles, and the noodles turn round in the pot, the husband has a bowl, the mother-in-law has a bowl, and finally the sister has a bowl". "Little Darling" Reflecting Family Love: "Little Darling, you fall under the door and hit a big bump on your head, the bump is spinning, don't let grandma see it". The poem "Shaisha Gege" reflects etiquette: "Shaisha Gege, what should we eat when my uncle comes? Beat eggs and fry them with oil. If he doesn't want to eat, I'll give him two big bowls. Sift and sift, what should we eat when my uncle comes? My family lives in Mashankou. There is a big yellow dog in front of the door. Kill and eat my uncle before leaving." "Mashan Nursery Rhymes" is a kind of folk literature that was created by the masses in the agricultural society, an advanced cultural market town with developed economy and trade, on the basis of self-entertainment during the slack season. It is the product of the local masses' thoughts and ideas. Its genre, content, and singing form were formed according to the characteristics of the folk customs and social customs at that time. It has a unique rural flavor and pastoral interest, diverse forms, simple language, romantic passion, and clear artistic characteristics such as love and hate. Its value is manifested in the following aspects: (1) Folklore value: From different aspects of nursery rhymes, we can get a glimpse of the trajectory of the evolution of Neixiang folk customs and the context of social development. (2) Linguistic value: Mashan nursery rhymes are simple and unadorned, easy to understand, quiet and pleasant, and are sung freely in local slang. They are concise and expressive, and have a strong local flavor. (3) Literary value: Mashan nursery rhymes are diverse and integrate the essence of oral literature. They are a specimen for studying Neixiang folk literature and the foundation of literary creation.
