Wen'an County is located in the hinterland of Beijing, Tianjin and Bohai Bay, surrounded by the three major cities of Beijing, Tianjin and Baoding. The Beijing-Kowloon Railway passes through the county, and three national and provincial highways run through the county, making transportation very convenient. Caitou Village is located 25 miles northwest of Wen'an County, with a long history. The ancient music concert was first created during the Jiajing period and was taught by the monks Benfa and Benshe who presided over the Wangkou Temple and the Weihexiqiao Temple in Tianjin. It is temple music. The Caitou Village concert has been passed down for more than 400 years. When playing, the musicians sit around a long table, and the pipe holder sits in the middle. When playing percussion ensemble alone, the drum is in the middle, and the cymbals, gongs, and small cymbals are placed on both sides of the drummer. The instruments are led by the pipe, and the sheng, flute, cloud gong and percussion instruments cooperate. There are 24 musicians. The main repertoires played include "Pipi Ling", "Deng Hua Hui", "Ba Ban", "Si Mo Zi", "Hippocampus", "Ci Cao", "Si Cao", "He Si Pai, Da Shao", "Dao Jin Deng, Da Shao, Sha Pa", "He Si Pai, Zheng Diao", "Yue Zhang", "Tail", "Si Cao, Da Shao", "Yue Zhang, Da Shao", "Da Zou Ma", "Xiao Zou Ma", "Qi Yan Hui", "Jin Tang Yue", "Shan Po Yang" (Kao Fan Diao), etc. "Yue Zhang" is rare in northern music. The repertoire of this concert has been included in the book "Chinese Music Yearbook". The ancient music has a high artistic value. There is a gongche score in existence. The song book has no notes. It is completely passed down by old artists using gongche score orally. Ancient music performances are often performed at funerals. On the first day of each year, people walk to the temple to play and burn incense as a memorial. People in the surrounding villages and towns also attend temple fairs to celebrate and perform. The nine-hole pipe that has been preserved to this day has a history of more than 200 years. The old artist Ma Baoquan hid the pipe in a crack in the wall during the Cultural Revolution and it survived. Since the establishment of the Caitou Village Concert, it has not been affected by other musical forms and has maintained its original form. The concert enthusiastically serves the folk customs of the village and entertains generations of villagers, enriching their cultural life, strengthening the local simple and honest folk customs, and highlighting the educational function of folk religious music.
