Guixi She Lantern Dance (the third batch of provincial level) Guixi She Lantern Dance, also known as Lantern Dance. It is an ancient local dance of the She ethnic group with a long history. It has been passed down from the end of the Yuan Dynasty to today. It is the crystallization of traditional folk culture and art created by the She people in their labor and life. The performance style of Lantern Dance is unique, the content is rich and colorful, and the local flavor is strong. It is a folk dance performed by the She people when they thank their ancestors, celebrate the New Year, celebrate the harvest, and welcome distinguished guests. At present, this traditional folk dance art is still preserved in Zhangping National Township, Guixi City. In the middle of the Ming Dynasty, the She people moved from Fujian to Guixi and lived scattered on the hillside of Jianghu Mountain in Zhangping. In order to prevent disasters, not be threatened by outsiders, guard the tribe, and bless the She people to live and work in peace and contentment, the She elders invited (moved) the ancestors and saints from the old place to sit on the table, "set up an altar" and began to dance the Lantern Dance to bless the She people to live and work in peace. From then on, they really lived a peaceful life. To thank the ancestors for their blessings, at the end of each year, She ethnic minority artists would make lanterns of different colors, butterfly lanterns, carp lanterns, and flower pot lanterns, singing and dancing to pay tribute to the gods. Starting from the first day of the new year, they would go to every village to perform lantern dances and wish a happy new year. Until the Lantern Festival, they would burn the lanterns to pay tribute to the ancestors and gods. From then on, the She ethnic minority started the traditional custom of lantern dances.
