Xingguo Rui Opera (the fourth batch of provincial level) Xingguo Duan Opera, also known as mosquito net opera, is a traditional folk opera with a long history that is spread on both sides of the Donghe River in Zhangmu, Dongcun, Changgang, Xingguo. Duan Opera performances are performed in folk activities such as birthdays of the elderly and children, weddings and funerals, Buddhist temple fairs, and the Spring Festival Lantern Festival. Xingguo Duan Opera has a long history. Its historical origin is roughly the same as that of string puppets. There is a saying that "Master Chen Ping made puppets, and the Han Dynasty's will protected the people of the world." In the thousands of years of transmission and evolution, it has gradually formed a unique branch. According to legend, in a certain year, the palace held a literary and artistic performance, and all the deacons and servants had to come up with programs to participate. Among them, there was a "cook head army" who could only perform alone in a hurry, so he held a puppet in his hand, combining Sheng, Dan, Jing, Mo, Chou, and a band, and was surprisingly successful. Therefore, Duan Opera artists call their ancestors "cook head army." Since Duan Opera artists combine various performances in one, and "food is the first necessity of the people", if the chef does not cook, the others will go hungry, so Duan Opera has always been called the "king of drama". Once the chef of Duan Opera comes on stage, the artists of other categories will stop playing gongs and drums to let him perform first. Duan Opera has a long history in Xingguo. According to the fact that the family of the master Deng Chengrui, who is over 80 years old in Shiyan Village, Changgang Township, has been handed down for four or five generations, Duan Opera has been in Xingguo for at least a hundred years. In addition to the general characteristics of puppetry, Xingguo Duan Opera also has its own unique artistic personality. Duan Opera has simple equipment and capable personnel. One artist has one opera pole. No matter whether it is a big or small drama, a literary or martial drama, a male or female role, a clean or ugly role, playing music, singing and dancing, it all depends on one person's hands, feet, mouth, and tongue, and the flexible coordination of ten fingers to complete it. Duan Opera has rich repertoires and strong literary quality. The themes include human drama, case drama, palace drama, martial arts drama, as well as long historical drama, and storytelling books compiled by artists and passed down orally. Most of its music is sung in Xipi fast and slow tunes, Erhuang and other Qiyang tunes, with elegant, simple and pure style, forming its own school; it integrates folk literature, puppet performances, drama and opera, sculpture and painting and other art forms, and the artists have multiple roles, the performance form is very distinctive, and it has high artistic and folk cultural value.
