Jiangxi String Puppetry (the fourth batch of provincial level) It is said that puppetry was popular in the Han Dynasty, and its originator was Master Chen Ping. Yudu County String Puppetry was popular among the people in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. At that time, the Heshuntang and Dingshuntang puppet troupes of the Liu family in Fenkeng Village, Yinkeng Town, were active in Yudu and neighboring counties and towns. After hundreds of years, they have been passed down from generation to generation for more than ten generations. The String Puppet Troupe consists of 48 people, including: string artists, drummers, percussion instruments, erhu, suona, banhu, flute and other accompaniment personnel. Puppet characters are divided into three types: old, middle-aged and young, with a total of 18 to 38 puppets of various types. There are old and young men, both civil officials and military officials, as well as civilians; there are old women, flower women and young women or Qingyi; there are also ugly women, commonly known as clowns, also known as "Sanhuazi". For puppet show performance, the stage is set up first, then the gong is opened, and then the Eight Immortals are invited. At this time, the host will give the artist a red envelope as a token of gratitude. Then the play is selected and the performance begins. Each performance lasts at least two hours, and there are usually two to three performances a day. The puppeteer earns 350,540 yuan a day, and the rest of the staff earns one or two hundred yuan a day. The puppets are usually made by the artists themselves, carved from camphor wood, and the clowns use bamboo strips to weave their limbs, and then light them. The puppets' clothes are also cut and sewn by themselves, including headdresses, props, etc. With the continuous development of society, the number of people watching puppet shows has greatly decreased, the performance market has gradually shrunk, and there is a lack of successors for puppet artists. This long-standing folk art flower is facing the dilemma of withering, and urgently needs support and rescue to rejuvenate its youthful vitality.
