Guanyun root carving technique
Root carving technique (expanded), a traditional art project in the second batch of Lianyungang City's representative expanded projects of municipal intangible cultural heritage. Root carving is a form of sculpture made from tree roots, based on and making full use of their natural form, with rich human imagination, and by selecting and discarding the roots and carving them slightly. The difference between it and wood carving is that wood carving is completely carved based on human subjective design. Root carving is mainly based on the natural form of the root system. The root carving technique in Guanyun County has a history of hundreds of years. By the 1980s and 1990s, Guanyun County had a root carving group of more than 10 people, and those with higher achievements included Chen Fuzhao, Niu Xiangyu, Wang Shouzhu, Wang Lanting, and Wang Guangwu. Their root carving works have won awards in national, provincial, and municipal art festivals or folk art exhibitions. Root carving uses natural tree roots as materials, and goes through processes such as peeling, shaping, and carving. Its works have a wide range of themes, mainly figures and animals, reflecting the subtle artistic taste of being like but not, not like but not. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
