Haizhou Woodcut
Woodcut (expanded), a traditional art project of the sixth batch of representative expansion projects of intangible cultural heritage at the municipal level in Lianyungang City. Traditional engraving is a vast history book and an important means of spreading culture in ancient times. The brilliant art of calligraphy also relies on engraving and has been passed down to this day. Although these engravings have different fonts and styles, they all have their own formal beauty, bold and majestic, and exquisite craftsmanship. It has made a significant contribution to the inheritance of calligraphy today. Chen Ronggao, the head of the engraving company, is a famous calligrapher in Lianyungang City. The three characters "Huaguoshan" are from his masterpiece. The "Shengqinggong" tea shop of the inheritor Li Rongsheng was written and carved by Li Rongsheng. The master passed it on to his apprentice Song Chuanxi, who studied and innovated on the techniques taught by his master. Many exquisite signs such as "Meishi Zhai", "Huanghai Hotel", "Huanghai Bathhouse", and "Weifanglou" were passed on to Ren Guishu. Ren Guishu combines Haizhou traditional engraving with modern engraving, transforming the previous concave engraving into positive engraving, and has participated in national competitions many times. He has participated in the National Engraving Exhibition for five consecutive years, from the 5th to the 9th National Engraving Exhibition, with the highest participation rate in northern Jiangsu. He has participated in the Jiangsu Provincial Engraving Exhibition for five consecutive years and won the highest award in Jiangsu Province at the 2nd Jiangsu Provincial Engraving Exhibition. He has participated in international exhibitions three times. There are only two exhibitors in the first "Shen Shang Cup" Engraving Exhibition of China Calligraphy Newspaper in the whole Jiangsu Province, and Ren Guishu is one of them. Engraving, as another form of expression of calligraphy art, is always inseparable from calligraphy. It is first of all a re-creation of calligraphy. Calligraphy is the first element of engraving creation. Those who are not good at calligraphy will find it difficult to be good at engraving. Only those who are good at calligraphy can make calligraphy, composition, and brushwork clear in their hearts, and can engrave good works by skillfully controlling various tools.
