Pushing flower carts is a traditional dance item in the fifth batch of representative items of municipal intangible cultural heritage in Huai'an. Pushing flower carts is a folk art spread in Huaiyin area of Huai'an City, with a long history of hundreds of years. The performance content of pushing flower carts is diverse, and with the changes of the times, the content of the dance is also constantly changing. Before liberation, the performances were mainly about reflecting the suffering and persecution suffered by the people in the old society, expressing the farmers' desire to turn over and become masters of their own homes. After liberation, the performance content was mostly about praising the Communist Party and the new socialist life. After the reform and opening up, the performance content has become richer, mainly praising the good principles and policies of the Party and the increasingly prosperous life. Pushing flower carts is a comprehensive folk art with dialogue, singing, dancing, and plots. There are generally three characters, usually the parents-in-law and the daughter-in-law or daughter. The father-in-law (father) pushes the cart, one is sitting in the car, and the other is holding the car (usually the daughter-in-law or daughter). The old man pushes the cart, the mother-in-law sits in the cart, and the daughter-in-law pulls the cart. The three of them come out to the rhythm of gongs and drums. The old woman is in the cart, holding a flower umbrella in her hand. The three people move in unison, fast or slow, or stop or rest. Through different movements, they perform different scenes such as uphill, downhill, landslide, resisting the car, bumpy, etc., accompanied by rap and ridicule, and attract the audience with humorous language, movements and expressions. Performers are required to be energetic, powerful, hard and soft, and infectious. The body and handlebars of the float are made of bamboo. The ropes for pulling the cart are generally replaced by colorful ribbons. The body is tied with red and green flowers made of paper or cloth. There are small feet wrapped in green cloth wearing embroidered shoes and fake legs wearing pants on the car. The person is in the middle, and the image is lifelike. The edge of the car is surrounded by yellow, green, or red cloth. Pushing the flower cart is a shining pearl of the folk art in Huaiyin area. It is a portrayal of the production and life scenes of the Huaiyin people.
