Playing flower stick
Flower sticks are a folk sports activity, mostly participated by women. In the past, it was a way for girls to choose their lovers, and later it developed into a recreational and fitness activity. According to legend, a long time ago, there was a girl in the village who was pretty, cute, smart and hardworking. She was loved by two young men at the same time. Both of them asked the matchmaker to ask the girl's parents for marriage. The parents asked their daughter's opinion, but the daughter always lowered her head shyly and kept silent. The parents felt embarrassed. On a full moon night, the two young men who proposed marriage came. The girl's parents set up a "singing stage" and let the two young men sing and express their feelings with their daughter to decide the marriage. However, after several rounds of competition, it was still difficult to determine the winner. In the dilemma, the girl's father came up with a plan. He found a rattan stick, asked the two young men to stand on both sides, and the daughter squatted in the middle and danced with the rattan stick for a circle. The one who was hit by the rattan stick first or jumped out of the radius of the rattan stick would automatically withdraw from the competition. During the performance, eight people were divided into four groups to fight against each other. Sticks hit each other and sticks hit the ground rhythmically. The girls wear bordered clothes, sing and dance, and swing flower sticks in their hands, constantly hitting their heads, shoulders, chests, arms, backs, knees, legs, feet and other parts of their bodies. They change formations and hit each other, and the flower sticks make pleasant collision sounds that go with the girls' clear and gentle singing. Playing flower sticks has been constantly changing during its long-term folk spread, from the original "women hitting men and jumping" to "men and women fighting and jumping". There are some ways to play flower sticks, such as hitting the stick a little, sweeping the stick back and forth, and rotating the stick. The basic jumping methods include left jumping, right jumping, jumping up, jumping across, jumping and turning, etc. When the jumping reaches its climax, the stick beater will tie a rope to one of his feet to do the sweeping action, and the other foot will do a single-leg jump. Combined with the dance posture, there are "Golden Pheasant Spreads Wings", "Erlang Carrying the Mountain", "Bright Moon Playing with Cicadas", "Kite Turning Over", "Chang'e Flying to the Moon", "Golden Snake Coiling", etc. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
