Yangzhou rod puppet show "flourished in the Tang Dynasty, became popular in the Song Dynasty, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties"; in the middle of the Qing Dynasty, it once migrated to the Santai area, leaving deep footprints there and writing a brilliant page with rich strokes and colors; in the 1970s, it returned to its hometown, shouldering the heavy responsibility of inheritance and protection, setting up monuments and composing a more glorious chapter. Rod puppets are both characters in dramas created by people through the combination of carving and painting, and props manipulated by people for performances. They are the most important embodiment of the visual effects of rod puppet art. The main rod of the puppet device is also called the "life rod", which is directly lifted and operated by the actors. The hand pole is also called "hand pole", the upper end of which is connected to the puppet's hand, and can change the direction and posture of the hand to enrich the performance of the hand. In puppet manipulation performance, various skills of holding up puppets are called "lifting skills", the hand skills of manipulating puppets are called "pole skills", and the steps of mastering various characteristics of different characters are called "stage steps"; there are also special skills such as "water sleeve skills", fan rhyme, heavenly flowers, puppet calligraphy and painting. Puppets are extremely romantic, exaggerated and beautiful, "not real people, but better than real people", "can do what people can do, and can do what people can't do", in a small space, it interprets thousands of atmospheres, lively and lively, and expands unlimited thinking space for the audience; puppet performances are extremely comprehensive and friendly, on the stage, on campus and in the countryside, with superb acting skills, gorgeous lineups, and humorous atmospheres, they have infected and overwhelmed the audience; with the artistic style of "combining hardness and softness, delicate and vivid", it is unique in the Chinese and even international puppet world.
