The Longsheng Yao people are a nation with a long history. As early as the early Eastern Han Dynasty, the ancestors of the Yao people lived in this remote land, which was called Sangjiang in ancient times. The hardworking and intelligent Yao people have created a traditional culture with rich content and strong characteristics in their long-term production struggles and social activities. The clothing characteristics of the Longsheng Yao people were written in Volume 3 of "Answers from the Mountains and Outer Regions" by Zhou Qufei in the Song Dynasty: The Yao people in Sangjiang Village, women wear topknots on their foreheads, and wear top shirts and skirts that are colorful and bright green, but the patterns on their tops are very fine, which is popular. Volume 6 (Yao spotted cloth) says: "The Yao people use blue dyeing cloth to make spots, and the patterns are very fine. The method is to use two wooden boards, carve fine patterns, use them to hold the cloth, and pour melted wax into the carves. Then release the boards to take the cloth and put it into the blue. The cloth will absorb the blue, and then boil the cloth to remove the wax. Therefore, it can form very fine spots, which are very beautiful. Therefore, the method of dyeing spots is not only the Yao people's specialty." It can be seen that the Yao people have mastered the art of carved batik a long time ago, and the "Red Yao" batik craft is still thriving. In 2014, the State Council announced the fourth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative project list, and Longsheng Yao costumes were selected into the extended project list of national intangible cultural heritage representative project list for its exquisite craftsmanship and cultural heritage.
