Dragon dance competition Dragon dance is a traditional folk sports and entertainment activity in my country, which is spread all over the country and has a long history. It has various forms, many types, and colorful styles and schools. Dragon dance is widely distributed in Sanlin area and is large in scale. It is an important part of traditional festivals. From the Ming and Qing Dynasties to before liberation, dragon dance in Sanlin area was mostly for folk self-entertainment. After liberation, Sanlin dragon dance gradually turned from street performance to square performance, from self-entertainment to professionalism, from randomness to regularity, and combined with other folk dances such as lion dance, cloud dance, and drum dance, which greatly improved the artistic level and appreciation of Sanlin dragon dance. In 1994, the State Sports Commission established the Dragon and Lion Sports Association, and dragon dance was officially listed as a competitive event, which made traditional dragon dance go from self-entertainment to standardized, competitive, and internationalized. Dragon dance is a traditional sports event that integrates opera, martial arts, dance, and folk drum music. Its shape is mainly composed of dragon balls, dragon heads, dragon bodies, and dragon tails. It is completed with the help of dragon balls and dragon body equipment under the background of music. During the activity, there are usually 9 people holding poles and dancing, and 1 person holding a dragon ball to lead the dance. The movements of Sanlin dragon dance can be roughly divided into five categories: (1) "swimming dragon"; (2) "eight-character dragon dance"; (3) "crossing and leaping"; (4) "dragon rolling"; (5) "grouping and shaping" categories. Sanlin dragon dance integrates the graceful body language of dance art, the steps of opera, the spirit and charm of martial arts, and the leaping and rolling skills into the skills of dragon dance, completing various difficult and graceful movements, forming the characteristics of "Shanghai style dragon dance" and opening up a new world for modern dragon dance. In contemporary Sanlin, the dragon dance team is growing and becoming stronger. It has now formed a team structure of more than 20 teams of old, middle-aged, young and young people. Dragon dance activities have been greatly popularized, which is rarely seen in other areas of Shanghai. Sanlin Town has been named "China's Folk Dragon Dance Hometown" by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and "China's Dragon and Lion Dance Hometown" by the State General Administration of Sports, which has well protected this intangible cultural heritage.
