Puppetry in my country originated in the Han Dynasty. After it was formed in the Tang Dynasty, it developed by combining operas and other arts of various dynasties. The performing arts of Lingnan puppetry was introduced from Zhejiang and Fujian during the Yuan Dynasty. In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, puppetry was already active in the streets of Guangzhou. At that time, the main performance venues were the City God Temple (now Zhongshan 4th Road Zhong V Street), the Huangsha area of Xiguan, Liwan, and rural temple fairs. Guangzhou has become a place for the promotion of Lingnan puppetry art. Lingnan puppetry performance art is closely related to the folk customs, religious beliefs, and local operas in the Lingnan region. It especially highlights the implicit and delicate, hard but sharp, soft and charming characteristics of Lingnan puppet art, and has become a part of the unique Lingnan culture, which is well-known at home and abroad.
