Guangdong Inner Painting
Guangdong inner painting is a traditional arts and crafts. It uses the composition, brushwork and coloring techniques of Chinese painting to paint on the inner wall of the glass bottle, forming a unique artistic spectacle. Shantou City is the central city of the eastern Guangdong region. It is known as the "Zou Lu of the Seaside" and has a very profound cultural heritage. The inner painting art circulated in Shantou is the only representative of the "Guangdong School" of traditional Chinese inner painting. Its founder is the late Chinese arts and crafts master Wu Songling. Guangdong inner painting is unique and outstanding due to its unique glass bottle shape, gold and color decoration effects on the outside of the bottle, painting and coloring techniques and painting tools. Influenced by the Lingnan School of Painting, Guangdong inner painting has delicate lines, rich colors, and rich and colorful content. It incorporates mountains and waters, birds and animals, ancient and modern figures, and exotic flowers on the inner wall of the bottle, winning the reputation of "unique painting art". Wu Songling and his son Wu Zekun successively trained 35 inner painting apprentices at the Shantou Arts and Crafts Research Institute (later changed to "Special Craft Factory"), so that this unique skill can be passed on. Guangdong inner painting is the crystallization of the wisdom of folk artists. It is all handmade, with distinct artistic characteristics and strong local style, providing a unique case for the study of the history of arts and crafts and Lingnan painting. Now that the master has passed away and the craftsmen who inherited the production skills are all over 50 years old, Guangdong inner painting is facing a situation of no successors and the future is worrying.
