Pingding is located in the right middle section of Taihang Mountain. It is located in a strategic position and has always been a place of contention for military strategists. It is adjacent to Jingxing and Pingshan in Hebei Province to the east, Shouyang (Jinzhong) to the west, Xiyang (Jinzhong) to the south, and the suburbs of Yangquan City and Yu County to the north. It covers an area of 1,353 square kilometers and has a population of 320,000. The territory is made of bluestone into mountains and loess into hills. Our ancestors lived there in the Paleolithic Age. The ownership of the area changed frequently from the Xia Dynasty to the Qin Dynasty. It was established as a county from the beginning of the Han Dynasty to the Song Dynasty. It was a prefecture in the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was promoted to a direct-controlled prefecture at the beginning of Yongzheng. It was changed to a county in the Republic of China. In 1983, it was placed under the jurisdiction of Yangquan City. The traditional Wuzhai drum is played by 21 people who play a set of classical gong and drum tunes with different names. At the same time, they perform a variety of dance routines (playing back) and the evolution of formations, symbolically expressing the folk music and dance of the plots such as "Zhu Tong Goes to Liangshan", "Zhao Kuangyin Goes to Hedong", and "Li Zicheng Enters Beijing". The actors wear ancient martial arts fire costumes, with a single flag on their backs and eight-treasure rope flowers on their chests. Every female role has a "plum blossom" pattern painted on the forehead and cheeks. The headdress and facial makeup are similar to those in opera. During the performance, the "commander" in the center plays the drum and beats the rhythm to command, and the drum dances, circles around, or slowly and calmly, or high-spirited and passionately. The performance style is heroic and free, with a vigorous spirit, similar to the folk martial arts fire. Now only Jingzhiyu Village in Pingding can maintain its original appearance. The drum was created in the sixth year of Xining in the Northern Song Dynasty, with a history of 934 years. According to literature research, its evolution is clear: it is a variety show in the brothels and theaters, and it becomes "Yuanxiao drum", "village drum" and "river drum" in the market and countryside. After hundreds of years of evolution, there were three types of drums in Pingding Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty: civil, martial and ugly. To this day, the martial drum (including the civil drum) is still popular in the world. Pingding has long been known as a "famous state of literature". The people have always been simple and elegant, and they love literature. The people value the dragon god, and there are many folk songs, rain sacrifices, and La sacrifices. The activities of meeting and welcoming the emperor are frequent and grand. Since the Yuan Dynasty, the Wuzhai drum has been used as a special ceremonial weapon to welcome the emperor. It has unique functions of entertaining gods and people. It has always been loved by the villagers, and the Wuzhai drum has been passed down. Pingding Wuzhai drum has preserved a complete set of classical gong and drum tunes, battle formation patterns, and back-and-forth routines. The actors in the play each have a single flag on their backs, and the female characters are decorated with "plum blossom faces", which is very similar to the performance characteristics of "pretending to be alone" in Song Dynasty drama. It has high historical, cultural and artistic value and is an important specimen for studying ancient military drums and music, battle formations, Song Dynasty drama performance forms, and folk worship customs.
