Gaoping Drum Singing
Gaoping drum book was initially based on storytelling, similar to "pinghua". There was no string accompaniment during the performance, only a drum, a board, and a wooden stick. After liberation, Gaoping drum book was reformed, adding instrumental accompaniment and changing to singing as the main part. However, the performance was still based on drums and boards, with only an interlude at the end of the name and a transition after a short segment. The tunes are rich in local characteristics, and the lyrics have no fixed format. Sometimes a sentence of "guankou" can be more than a hundred words long. The librettos are mostly historical traditional stories, such as "Three Heroes and Five Gallants", "Ji Gong's Case", "The Biography of Yue Fei", "Wagangzhai", etc., and are also accompanied by modern themes compiled and performed by the Propaganda Center. Among them, "Giving Up Seat" has won awards at the provincial and municipal levels. "Genku Cleverly Planting Money Trees" and "Meeting In-laws" won first prizes in the Jincheng City Performance. The concerts of the blind couple Shen Fucai and Liu Shui'e have been recorded on tapes and records many times. The blind folk art troupe of this county was established in 1952. There are currently 3 folk art troupes with more than 20 actors. (No pictures available, please provide them.) (No pictures available, please provide them.)
