🎧  Listen to Introduction

The legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl began with the records in the Book of Songs: "Standing on tiptoe, the Weaver Girl" and "Looking at the Cowherd". The Nineteen Ancient Poems: The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl are already referred to as husband and wife. In the Manners and Customs of Ying Shao, there is a fragment: "On the seventh night of the seventh month, the Weaver Girl crossed the river and used magpies as a bridge. It is said that the magpies' heads were shaved for no reason for seven days, so they used the bridge to ferry the Weaver Girl across." According to relevant experts, the geographical location described by the "Dadong" of the Zhou Dynasty in the Book of Songs spans the areas of Linzi and Qufu in Shandong today, and Yiyuan County, located in the upper reaches of the Yi River, is located between Linzi and Qufu. It is the core area of "Dadong" in terms of geographical location. The Weaver Girl Cave on Daxian Mountain in Yanya Township, Yiyuan County today and the Cowherd Temple across the river from it are the places that best match the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Its original construction can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty in China. It is currently the only ancient architectural site in China with the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl as the theme, and it has a monopoly among similar resources in China. The story of "Cowherd and Weaver Girl" has spread all over the world and is known to every household. But almost no one knows where it came from. After many investigations by experts and scholars, it was discovered that the story of "Cowherd and Weaver Girl" originally came from Yanya Township, Yiyuan County, Shandong Province. First of all, there are real scenes in the local area. Yanya Township, Yiyuan County, Shandong Province has the only rare landscape in China where the legend corresponds to the actual scene and there are ancient architectural sites, the Weaver Girl Cave and Cowherd Temple built in the Tang Dynasty. The two are opposite to each other across the Yi River from east to west. The landscape pattern on both sides of the river echoes the "Altair, Milky Way and Vega" in the sky, and is surprisingly similar, forming a unique landscape of unity of man and nature and magic of heaven and earth. The Cowherd Temple was originally a two-story 0-style building. After many renovations, it began to take shape. It has three main halls, blue bricks and green tiles, painted brackets, and magnificent architecture. The main hall of the temple has statues of the Cowherd and his children, and a golden bull lying beside them. There is a statue. The ancient cypresses in the courtyard are towering, quiet and unique. Among them, "Yihe" is a perfect homonym of "Milky Way". Secondly, there are people living there. The village next to the Cowherd Temple is called Niulangguanzhuang. Most of the people in the village have the surname "Sun", which is exactly the same as the Cowherd (Sun Shouyi). This village has existed since the Ming Dynasty. The villagers regard themselves as descendants of the Cowherd and have passed down the story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl from generation to generation. Up to now, they have followed the customs of raising silkworms, weaving cloth, and taking Shuangqi water. Third, there are records in literature. The earliest record in the Book of Songs Xiaoya Dadong in the Western Zhou Dynasty was: "跂(qi)彼织女", "睆(huan)彼千牛". According to research, the location of Dadong is east of Mount Tai, in the area of Linzi and Qufu, and the core location of Dadong is Yiyuan. Fourth, there are witnesses on the stone tablets. There are many stone tablets on the entire Daxian Mountain in Yanya Township, Yiyuan County, but because they were destroyed before However, there are only a few intact ones left now, but the contents engraved on all the stone tablets are more or less related to the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl. Among them, there is a stone tablet that records the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl beautifully and clearly. This stone tablet was erected in the 20th year of Jiaqing. The two poems engraved on the stone tablet are called "Climbing the Weaver Girl Terrace" by Wang Songting. The third and fourth sentences of the poem are "It seems that the stars are hanging down from the blue sky, and the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl are vaguely descending to the world." It vividly describes the artistic conception of the image in the sky and the shape on the earth. There is also a stone tablet "The Record of the Double Tower in the Weaver Girl Cave" which was erected in the seventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1579). The inscription records: "Zhiyun-passed the valley and heard the sound of the loom in the cave, so it was named Weaver Girl." It talks about the origin of Weaver Girl. It means that in the Tang Dynasty, someone passed by here and heard the sound of the loom in the cave. He thought that Weaver Girl was weaving, so he built this Weaver Girl Fairy Cave. , the second sentence of the inscription is "Niugong rises on the opposite bank, so what is formed in the sky is formed on the ground". Furthermore, according to research, there are also natural and geological wonders such as Zhinu Spring, Zhinu Terrace (Tiansun Terrace), rare leaf seed ginkgo, and angular unconformity surface in the Cowherd and Weaver Girl Scenic Area, all of which are related to the legend of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl and have a strong cultural color. Leaf seed ginkgo is unique in China and very rare in the world. The fruit of leaf seed ginkgo grows on the leaves. The strange thing is that not all the fruits on this tree grow on the leaves. Only the fruit on this branch is leaf seed ginkgo, which is a beautiful branch above the Wusheng Hall near the Weaver Girl Cave. These fruits account for about 20% of the tree, and this branch is facing the direction of the Weaver Girl Cave. Perhaps this is a testimony made by the old tree for the love of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl. Daxian Mountain in the Cowherd and Weaver Girl Scenic Area is 532 meters above sea level, with a forest coverage rate of 96%. The cliffs are like cuts, the boulders are rugged, the pines and cypresses are dense, and the ecological environment is excellent. The Yi River is like a belt under Daxian Mountain. The "Milky Way on the Ground" waterscape is 3 kilometers long and has formed a water surface of more than 500,000 square meters. Due to the high degree of harmony and unity between various natural resources and cultural context, Shandong Yiyuan is called "the hometown of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl and the source of Chinese love culture" by experts.
