Yimeng Printing and Dyeing
The blue and colored printed fabrics in the Yimeng area are well-known. Ancient printing and dyeing workshops are still preserved in Cangshan, Junan, and Linshu. The quaint thatched houses scattered in the mountains and villages exude a long-lasting fragrance, supporting this art with a nostalgic feeling, and deeply sowing the beauty of blue printed fabrics on the land of Yimeng. The pigment of blue printed fabrics is indigo, which is extracted from a plant called blue grass. It has stable physical properties and elegant color. Xunzi, who served as the magistrate of Lanling during the Warring States Period, said in "Encouragement to Study": Blue is derived from blue and is bluer than blue. This simple, calm and soothing blue, coupled with auspicious, mysterious and beautiful patterns, is purer than the white clouds floating in the blue sky and more affectionate than the flowers blooming on the earth. This supreme and silent artistic language best represents the wisdom and passion for creating life of the children of Yimeng. The patterns of blue printed fabrics are mostly based on seven-point flowers and birds, and the structure is composed of small dots, short lines, and small blocks, which look like cat paws and plum blossoms; some use traditional patterns such as wheel lines. Colored printed fabrics are mostly printed with five colors: bright red, green, pink, purple, and yellow, with full structures and gorgeous colors. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
