The world-famous Lu'an Yipinzhai brush was first produced in the 15th year of Emperor Daoguang's reign in the Qing Dynasty, and has a history of 150 years. Xia Jun'an (1871-1939), the founder of Lu'an Yipinzhai, was born in Gulou Street, Lu'an. He learned to make brushes since he was a child. After he graduated, he set up his own brush shop in Lu'an and named it Lu'an Yipinzhai.
