Gaofeng Tang's bamboo basket weaving technique is a traditional bamboo basket weaving technique that came from the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty (1864), when Tang's ancestors (Tang Zhonghou and Tang Shirong) immigrated from Jidong Town, Shaoxing, Zhejiang to Gaofeng Village, Dongting Township, Guangde County. Due to the variety of bamboo baskets woven by them and the novel weaving patterns, they quickly had an impact in the local area and were welcomed, playing an important role in the upgrading and progress of bamboo product processing in Guangde County. This technique has been passed down by five generations in Guangde for more than 150 years, and now it has become the mainstream technical means of the local bamboo basket weaving industry. The bamboo baskets woven by Tang's family are mainly made of purple bamboo, Xiangfei bamboo, Luohan bamboo, light bamboo, moso bamboo, yellow shell bamboo, water bamboo, etc., and they are woven with various functions and forms. The shapes of the bamboo baskets are round, square, cylindrical, polygonal, etc., with various shapes and charms. In terms of weaving techniques, there are picking and pressing weaving, pulling flower weaving, solid weaving, empty weaving, etc. The weaving of Tang's bamboo baskets is very fine, and the number of bamboo strips used can reach more than 100 (that is, more than 100 bamboo strips are arranged in one inch). Some baskets are nested layer by layer, shaped like a pagoda, also known as "tower basket" or "support basket"; some are hollow woven, with sparse and neat bamboo strips. Common weaving patterns include pepper eyes, six holes, chrysanthemum strings, etc., which are exquisite and translucent. Most bamboo baskets are woven with fine weaving such as picking one and pressing one (picking one and pressing two, picking two and pressing two), and the density of the weaving is determined according to needs. The weaving of Tang's bamboo baskets is famous for its exquisite materials, delicate weaving, bright color, wide variety, and exquisite shape. In recent years, with the increasing influence of Tang's hand-woven bamboo baskets, merchants from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Japan, South Korea and other places at home and abroad have flocked to it, and its woven hand-woven bamboo basket products are very popular and in short supply.
