Meijie Mulian Opera originated in the early 1920s and was taught by Mulian Opera artist Master Pan Shuanggui. It is mainly spread around Changlong Village, Meijie Town. Mulian Opera aims to persuade the world to fulfill vows and transcend the souls of the dead, so it is also called "wish opera" in Guichi. The Mulian Conference is divided into Mulian Qingjiao and singing Mulian Opera. Economically wealthy families hold Qingjiao and singing Mulian at the same time, and set up two stages, one for rituals and one for singing Mulian Opera. Some families even set up three-story stages to show solemnity, divided into three realms of heaven, earth, and underground, called "flower stage". Mulian Opera generally needs to be performed for three days, and every day it is sung from the sunset in the evening to the sunrise the next day, which is called "three-day red". According to local customs, after the Mulian Opera is sung or during the day during the performance, the "platform", that is, Peking opera, must be sung. This kind of Mulian Conference is very expensive, and in the event of natural disasters, it often cannot be held as scheduled. Families with meager assets were unable to hold a Mulian convention, but they needed to perform Mulian operas to liberate the dead souls and ward off disasters and evil spirits, so the form of "Chuanhui" (also written as "Chuanhui") appeared. Chuanhui is a relatively simplified performance that only lasts one night. Generally, the Mulian opera script consists of three volumes, upper, middle and lower, with 108 acts, while Chuanhui only performs one volume. There are two performance forms of Chuanhui Mulian opera: one is played by a person; the other is "Tuotou Mulian", which uses a wooden carved head, and people hold up the wooden statue and perform according to the Mulian opera repertoire and singing style, so it is called "Tuoputou Opera".
