Traditional Chinese medicine bone setting therapy (Wei's trauma therapy), a traditional medicine in Shanghai, is one of the national intangible cultural heritages. Wei's trauma therapy originated from Cao County, Shandong Province. In the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925), Wei Zhixin, a Chinese medicine orthopedic expert, founded Wei's traumatology in Shanghai. In the 1930s and 1940s, Wei's traumatology was already famous in Shanghai and was listed as one of the "eight traumatology experts" in Shanghai. Wei's traumatology therapy can solve many problems that Western medicine cannot solve with traditional Chinese medicine. It follows the development law of traditional Chinese medicine, inherits the essence, and innovates. It responds to the topic of promoting a better integration of traditional medicine and modern medicine with an open and inclusive attitude, and explores a path to the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine. In 1955, Wei Zhixin gave up his private clinic and led his family and clinic staff to work in Shanghai Second Medical College (now Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine) and its affiliated Guangci Hospital (now Ruijin Hospital), Renji Hospital, etc., to establish traditional Chinese medicine traumatology and selflessly dedicate his ancestral secret recipe to the country. In 1958, Wei Zhixin cooperated with Professor Ye Yanqing, an orthopedic expert at Ruijin Hospital, to establish the Shanghai Traumatology Research Institute, using modern scientific methods to study Wei's traumatology secret recipes and treatment methods, and to improve the scientific system of traditional Chinese traumatology. On May 24, 2021, the traditional Chinese bone setting therapy (Wei's traumatology therapy) applied by Shanghai was approved by the State Council of the People's Republic of China to be included in the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative projects, with heritage number -6.
