Batik technique of the Miao people in Gong County
Batik is one of the ancient traditional folk dyeing and printing techniques of the Chinese nation. As early as the Qin and Han Dynasties, the Miao people had mastered batik technology. The batik of the Miao people in Gong County is unique among the batiks of the Miao people in Sichuan. The "Gong County Chronicles" of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty recorded: The Miao people in Luodu took wax and melted it and painted it on the cloth. After dyeing, they boiled the cloth and washed the wax to make a batik skirt. The batik of the Miao people in Gong County is mainly blue and white, and is often combined with cross-stitching and patchwork. Generally, it is dyed first and then embroidered. The color is rich, the layers are distinct, and it is both simple and gorgeous. There are many natural and geometric patterns in the patterns. Some are inherited from tradition, and some are derived from life. Often one pattern has multiple meanings. Batik has a full composition, vivid shape, symmetry and balance, and pays attention to the overall effect of pattern combination and visual order. The theme is generally centered, emphasizing the integrity and harmony of the pattern. It is concise and bright, dense without feeling complicated, simple without feeling thin. Even on the pleated skirt that is more than ten feet long, the chain-like composition does not feel rigid and vulgar due to the interweaving of dots and lines, the coexistence of straight and curved lines, and the interlacing of density and sparseness, but is full of rhythmic changes and a sense of rhythm. The patterns are exquisite, the lines are smooth, fresh as the mutual support of light clouds and blue sky, bright as the melody of mountain streams, rough in simplicity, elegant in simplicity, and have a distinct national style. The Miao compatriots in Gong County often use batik products to make clothes, pleated skirts, aprons, bed sheets, pillow towels, tent edges, door curtains, bags, mosquito nets, etc., which are indispensable folk handicrafts in the lives of the Miao people. In 2006, Luodu Miao Township created the "Sichuan Folk Art Township" with Miao batik as its feature. In 2008, Luodu Miao Township in Gong County was named "China Folk Culture and Art Township" by the Ministry of Culture. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
