Northern Folk Paper-cutting Project Batch: Provincial 3rd Batch Project Protection Unit: Northern Folk Culture and Art Research Center Representative Inheritors: Liu Yanshan Liu Liu Northern Folk Paper-cutting is an original form of paper-cutting, which originated from the primitive matriarchal society of northern ethnic minorities. Initially, it was mainly used to make statues of gods to be worshipped. The color was dark, the face was hideous, the shape was strange, the lines were complicated, and the composition was symmetrical, which was suitable for creating a deep, mysterious, and solemn religious atmosphere. In the early days of Heilongjiang, folk paper-cutting mostly used fish skin, tree bark, animal skin, and felt skin as materials, and then gradually paper was used as the main material. The main production techniques include cutting, carving, scraping, piercing, tearing, smoking, scalding, burning, and coloring. Types of works include flat paper-cutting, paper weaving, and semi-three-dimensional paper sculpture.
