It originated in Fangzheng, Heilongjiang in the middle of the Qing Dynasty. It has both the roughness of the paper-cutting of ethnic minorities in Northeast China and the delicate and smoothness of the paper-cutting in the Central Plains. It is a skill that integrates the paper-cutting of local indigenous ethnic groups with foreign paper-cutting. Paper-cutting artists make and modify tools, and create and develop several paper-cutting methods such as ancient cutting, decorative cutting and color cutting. The content emphasizes the lifestyle of local people, including hanging money, wall flowers, shed flowers, lantern flowers, wedding flowers, shoe flowers, pillow flowers and canopy flowers. Fangzheng paper-cutting artists have many teachers, and the teacher-student relationship is rarely pure and consistent.
