There are window paper-cuts, kang murals (kang fences), ceiling paintings, frame hangings, children's shoe toe paintings, belly wrapping paintings, etc. The forms include corner flowers, rotating flowers, overflowing flowers, string flowers, scattered flowers, paired flowers, and piled flowers. The range of expression is very wide. The traditional themes include cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, chickens, flowers, birds, lions and tigers, deer, cranes, unicorns, magpies, phoenixes, drama characters, folk stories, mascots, folk customs, farming, textiles, breeding, trade, festivals and celebrations, etc. Common works include "grab-hair dolls" in the Shang Dynasty, "deer unloading grass", "year after year of abundance (fish)", "snake coiling rabbit", "fortune, longevity", "unicorn sending", "lotus giving birth to a noble son", "cold bird playing plum blossoms" and so on in the Han Dynasty. It reflects the bold and simple character of the Mizhi people and their yearning for a better life. There are three ways to cut Mizhi paper-cutting. The first is to dip the window pattern to be cut in water and stick it on white fan paper, then put it on the oil lamp to smoke it. After smoking, peel off the pattern, cut it in pieces with scissors, and then put on several layers of red and green paper, and then use the rolled paper to twist and pin it, and then cut it according to the pattern on the white background. The second is to use scissors to cut whatever you think of without using patterns. Most of them cut some livestock and poultry small animals, which are bright, simple and vivid. The third is to draw the big pattern with a pen and cut it with scissors. There are countless people who can cut paper in Mizhi. Zhou Pingying, an old man from Shanjiagou Village, Shigou Town, Mizhi, is a folk paper-cutting master. In 2000, the works of Zhou Pingying and her granddaughter Du Jun have crossed the ocean and were exhibited in the art exhibition halls of three universities in the United States for more than half a year. At the same time, the book "Paper-cutting Works of Zhou Pingying in the Motherland" was officially published in the United States, which has made great contributions to promoting China's excellent traditional folk culture and promoting cultural exchanges between the East and the West. Ai Jianying of Yinzhou Town, Mizhi, created a series of northern Shaanxi folk paper-cuts based on inherited traditions. She expressed the customs and habits of northern Shaanxi in the form of paper-cuts, and brought them to full play. This has been recognized by experts and loved by the general public.
