Taijiang Miao Brocade Weaving Technique
Brocade refers to the skill of weaving patterned fabrics with colored warp and weft threads through jacquard and weaving techniques. It is a precious cultural heritage created by Miao women. In Taijiang, brocade, cross-stitching and embroidery are the "three major tasks" of Miao women throughout their lives. Taijiang Miao brocade has two categories: machine weaving and weaving. Machine weaving is wide brocade, which is mainly popular on both sides of the Qingshui River and the Bala River area, and weaving is brocade belt, which is mainly popular in Leigong Mountain area. Machine weaving is a jacquard fabric woven by Miao women using traditional "warp and weft" techniques and plain wood looms, using local silk, ramie, kapok and other fibers to dye and weave. Taijiang Miao brocade has a wide range of decorative themes, including birds and beasts, flowers, plants, fish and insects, mountains, rivers, sun and moon. Its expression forms are rich and colorful, with regular geometric patterns, classical rhombuses and squares, and decorative patterns between geometric patterns and natural patterns. The artistic technique is concise, bold and exaggerated, and the density, thickness, size, obliqueness, straightness, length and shortness of points, lines and surfaces are cleverly used to change and combine. The overall layout is balanced and the structure is rigorous. There is movement in the quietness and changes in the regularity, showing a bright and lively, simple and pure artistic taste. Taijiang Miao brocade is mostly used for headbands, leg wraps, waistbands, sleeves, back ornaments, shoulder ornaments and bedding. Shidong-shaped waistband brocade is the most beautiful type of Miao brocade. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
