The Flower Jumping Festival of the Miao Nationality is a folk activity held by the Miao people in Guizhou to wish for good weather, good harvests, and prosperity of livestock. Every year, more than 50,000 people go to the slope to participate in the Flower Jumping Festival. Among them, the Flower Jumping Festival held in Wayao Village, Anshun City from the seventh to the ninth day of the first lunar month is the largest. The Flower Jumping Festival began on the sixth day of the first lunar month. First, under the leadership of the respected village elder, a flower tree was formed with branches of various evergreens and handed over to the head of the household who gave birth to a child after receiving the flower tree last year. The head of the household then sent the flower tree from his home to the top of the mountain to the sound of suona. The Flower Jumping Festival comes on the seventh day of the first lunar month, and Miao men and women from all over the place gather at the Flower Jumping Slope. Unmarried young men dress up as women and play the reed pipe; married young men carry back fans and quilts on their backs, hang silver jewelry, embroidery and other items on the quilts, and play the reed pipe to participate in the event; children carry back fans to participate in the Flower Jumping Festival. After the Flower Jumping Festival ends in the afternoon of the ninth day of the first lunar month, couples who have been married for many years but have no children will take the flower tree home for worship. If a young man and a woman fall in love with each other during the flower-jumping activity, the man can ask someone to go to the woman's home to propose marriage. The Miao Flower-jumping Festival is an indispensable and important part of the Miao people's life. As a national festival, it has been passed down to this day and has played a positive role in enhancing national unity and promoting social harmony. Nowadays, with the changes in the living habits and value orientation of Miao youth, people's enthusiasm for participating in flower-jumping activities is also declining. Under this situation, the cultural connotation and practice of flower-jumping customs are disappearing and need to be protected urgently. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
