Valongo Wharf Archaeological Site

The Valongo Pier archaeological site is located in the center of Rio de Janeiro and includes the entire Plaza de Comercialla. It is located in the former port area of Rio de Janeiro, where an ancient stone pier was built from 1811 for enslaved Africans to land on the South American continent. An estimated 900,000 Africans arrived in South America via Valongo. The site consists of several archaeological layers, the lowest of which is a pé de moleque-style floor paving attributed to the original Valongo Pier. This is the most important physical trace of the arrival of African slaves to the American continent.

Sansa, Buddhist Mountain Monasteries in Korea

Sansa are Buddhist mountain temples found throughout the southern provinces of the Korean peninsula. The site consists of seven temples built between the 7th and 9th centuries AD, and their spatial layout presents a common characteristic unique to Korea - a "madang" (open courtyard) flanked by four buildings (a Buddhist hall, a pavilion, a lecture hall and a dormitory). They contain a large number of unique buildings, objects, documents and shrines. These mountain temples are sacred places and remain centers of faith and daily religious activities to this day.

Ahomite burial system (India)

This site is the royal tomb of the Ahom dynasty, located in the foothills of the Patkai Mountains in eastern Assam. Over a period of 600 years, the Ahom people used the natural terrain of hills, forests and water bodies to build earthen mound tombs called moidams, which gave the area a sacred quality. Banyan trees and trees used for making coffins and bark manuscripts were planted here, and water storage facilities were built. There are 90 moidams of various sizes scattered throughout the site, which are made of brick, stone and earth with vaults and hollow structures inside. The tombs contain the remains of the king and other royal family members, as well as funerary objects such as food, horses, elephants, and some also contain the remains of queens and servants. The Ahom people's meda mefi and tarpan ceremonies are still performed in the cemeteries of the Chaladeo district. Although this burial system is also found in other parts of the Jamuna Valley, this site is particularly prominent.
