Meidan Emam, Esfahan
Built by Shah Abbas I in the early 17th century, the site is surrounded by magnificent buildings connected by a series of two-story arcades and is famous for the Royal Mosque, the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, the magnificent Qasariyya Porch and the 15th-century Timurid Palace. They are powerful witnesses to the social and cultural living standards of Persia during the Safavid period.
Old City of Berne
Bern was founded in the 12th century on a hill surrounded by the Aare River. Over the centuries, Bern has been planned with great consistency. The buildings in the old town date from different periods, including 15th-century arcades and 16th-century fountains. Most of the medieval town was restored in the 18th century, but it still retains its original appearance.
Old Town of Segovia and its Aqueduct
Segovia's Roman aqueduct was built around 50 AD and is very well preserved. This impressive building with two levels of arches is part of the magnificent historic city of Segovia. Other important monuments include the Alcázar, which was built around the 11th century, and the 16th century Gothic Cathedral.
Litomyšl Castle
Litomyšl Castle was originally a Renaissance arcaded castle, a type of architecture that originated in Italy and was adopted and developed in Central Europe in the 16th century. It is particularly finely designed and decorated, including High Baroque features added in the late 18th century. It has preserved intact a number of outbuildings associated with this type of aristocratic residence.
