Galápagos Islands

Located in the Pacific Ocean, about 1,000 kilometers from mainland South America, these 19 islands and surrounding marine reserve have been described as a unique "living museum and showcase of evolution." Located at the confluence of three ocean currents, the Galapagos Islands are a "melting pot" of marine species. Continuous earthquake and volcanic activity reflects the processes that formed the islands. These processes, combined with the islands' extreme isolation, have led to the emergence of unusual animal life—such as land iguanas, giant tortoises and many species of finches—which inspired Charles Darwin to propose his theory of evolution by natural selection after his visit in 1835.

Antigua Guatemala

Antigua was the capital of the Guatemalan Viceroyalty and was founded in the early 16th century. Built 1,500 meters above sea level in an earthquake-prone area, Antigua was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773, but its main monuments remain as ruins. Built in less than three centuries on a grid pattern inspired by the Italian Renaissance, the city features many fine monuments.

Tajik National Park (Mountains of the Pamirs)

The Tajik National Park is located in the eastern part of the country, covering more than 2.5 million hectares, at the intersection of the highest mountain ranges of Eurasia, in the heart of the so-called "Pamir Knot". The park is divided into plateaus in the east and rugged peaks in the west, some of which reach more than 7,000 meters, with strong seasonal temperature changes. The park has 1,085 glaciers, including the longest valley glacier outside the polar regions, 170 rivers and more than 400 lakes. The park is rich in plant species from the Southwest and Central Asian floras and is home to rare and endangered birds and mammals from all over the country (Marco Polo argali, snow leopard and Siberian ibex, among others). The park is subject to frequent strong earthquakes, is sparsely populated and is almost unaffected by agriculture and permanent human settlement. It provides a unique opportunity to study plate tectonics and subduction phenomena.

Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall

Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall is located in the Anti-seismic Monument Square in the center of Tangshan City, Hebei Province. It was built in 1986 and was originally named "Tangshan Earthquake Data Exhibition Hall". It was renovated and expanded in 1996 and renamed "Tangshan Earthquake Memorial Hall". In 2006, it underwent a large-scale exhibition adjustment and renovation to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Tangshan earthquake. The current fixed exhibition is "Tangshan Achievement Exhibition". The Earthquake Memorial Hall covers an area of 3,500 square meters, a construction area of 7,700 square meters, an exhibition area of 4,000 square meters, and an exhibition line length of 620 meters. The exhibition consists of a prologue and 9 parts. On the one hand, it is based on the principles of highlighting key points, reflecting characteristics and showing highlights, fully demonstrating the brilliant achievements made by the people of Tangshan in promoting the earthquake resistance spirit and building a prosperous and beautiful new Tangshan 34 years after the earthquake, especially in the past 10 years. Nanhu Ecological Scenic Area

Since 1878, Kailuan Tangshan Mine has been mining coal in this area for more than 130 years, which has gradually formed a coal mining subsidence area of nearly 30 square kilometers. After the Tangshan earthquake in 1976, this place gradually became an abandoned land for urban garbage, fly ash and coal gangue. In 1996, the Tangshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government included the comprehensive management of the southern mining subsidence area in the practical project. In 2007, in line with the construction purpose of "turning waste into treasure, turning disadvantages into advantages, turning decay into magic, improving the environment, restoring the ecology, and improving the quality", the original subsidence pit was used to expand and transform the lake, plant trees, flowers and grass around the lakeshore, pave roads, and build a city park of initial scale. On March 1, 2008, the Tangshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government made a major decision to develop and build the Nanhu Ecological City. After more than a year of development and construction, plus the foundation laid in the previous decade, the Nanhu Ring Road has reached 22.5 kilometers, and a large number of trees, shrubs, aquatic plants, and ground cover plants have been planted, forming a huge urban "green lung".

Jiming Mountain Tourist Area

Jiming Mountain is located in the southeast of Xiahuayuan District, Zhangjiakou City, covering an area of 17.5 square kilometers, with an altitude of 1,140 meters. It borders Shijiaying Village, Huailai County to the north, the border between Xiahuayuan and Huailai County to the east and south, and the Yanghe Wet Valley Ecological Park in Shanghuayuan Village to the west. According to geological experts, Jiming Mountain was formed by a major earthquake about 1 billion years ago. Due to the strong crustal stress, the rock strata that had been silent for many years tilted, stood upright, reversed, and fractured, thus forming this isolated peak, which the ancients named "Feilai Peak". The temple in the mountain was built in the fifth year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (481 AD). There were more than 100 temples originally, covering an area of more than 1,300 square meters. After being renovated in the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the halls are magnificent and colorful. In 2006, Jiming Mountain Scenic Area was awarded the title of "National Ethnic Cultural Tourism Brand with the Most Development Potential"; in 2007, it was listed as one of the "Top 100 Buddhist Cultural Tourism Resorts in China". It is currently a national 4A-level scenic area and a scenic spot in Hebei Province.
